Chugach making progress but outage restoration slow going
Some customers may be out another day
Chugach Electric Association is making progress on repairs but due to the extensive amount
of damage to lines in some areas, outage restoration is slow going. We expect our crews will work
late into the night and possibly morning hours to restore all power.
After having more than 20,000 customers out at one time this morning, Chugach estimates 5,000
customers were still without power at 3:45 p.m. While power has been restored to all neighborhood
substations and the main feeders out of each of them are energized, there are many breaks in the
distribution system keeping power from reaching individual customers.
The problems are a result of trees blown into power lines during this morning's strong windstorm.
Falling trees ripped down lines - and in some cases broke poles - at locations throughout the Anchorage
Bowl. While outages were reported from Raspberry Road to the Muldoon area, the bulk of the problems were
scattered across the Hillside.
Customers who called in a power outage earlier in the day but are still without power at that location
should report their ongoing outage. To report a power outage to Chugach, call 762-7888 (toll free from
outside Anchorage at 800-478-7494).
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the
Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
