Chugach plans Girdwood power outage

Chugach Electric Association is planning a power outage on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The outage will start at about 1 p.m. and is expected to last approximately four hours. The outage will affect all 1,300 Chugach members in Girdwood. Consumers in Indian and Bird will experience a momentary outage while the Girdwood Substation power is switched over to a mobile substation.

The outage is necessary as Chugach will be taking the Girdwood Substation off line and placing the mobile substation in place to serve the Girdwood customer load while crews are performing maintenance on the substation. Chugach expects to take a similar outage in a week to 10 days to return the substation to service, but will again notify Girdwood residents of the time, day and date.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
