Chugach members elect directors

Janet Reiser, Jim Henderson and Harry Crawford were elected to the Chugach Electric Association board of directors.  Election results were announced at the cooperative utility’s annual meeting Thursday evening, May 22. Jeff Landfield was also a candidate in the election.

In 2013 Chugach members approved a bylaw changing director terms from 3 years to 4 years, and providing a transition to those new terms. As the two candidates receiving the most votes in the 2014 election, Reiser and Henderson were elected to 4-year terms, while Crawford was elected to a 3-year term.

Reiser is the Director of Business and Resource Development for the Aleut Corporation.  Henderson is a principal with new American Financial Group in the financial services industry.  Crawford is a former Alaska State Legislator, retired iron worker and a small-real-estate developer.  All three were incumbents.

In all, 12.5 percent of the 68,583 Chugach members of record voted, with 37.5 percent of the votes cast electronically via the Internet or phone.  A total of 180 Chugach members registered at the annual meeting, with about 300 people at the event.

In other voting, Chugach members approved two proposed bylaw changes.  One provides more time for candidates to submit information for the election packet and the other will give members notice when director compensation changes.

Immediately after the annual meeting, the board met to elect new officers to serve for the next year.  Reiser was elected board chair, Susan Reeves was elected vice-chair, Henderson was elected secretary and Sisi Cooper was elected treasurer.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
