Chugach Electric members elect directors

Elizabeth "Pat" Kennedy and Jim Nordlund were elected to 3-year terms on the Chugach Electric Association board of directors. Election results were announced at the cooperative utility's annual meeting Thursday evening, April 30. A total of 10,439 ballots were counted, meaning about 16 percent of the 66,034 Chugach members of record voted in the election.

Kennedy is a self-employed state-licensed private guardian and conservator who has been a Chugach member since 1980. She is also a former board member and an NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director.

Nordlund, an incumbent, is a self-employed homebuilder and general contractor who has been a Chugach member since 2004. He served as vice chair of the Chugach board for the past year and is an NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director.

Uwe Kalenka and Steve Pratt were also candidates in the election.

The ballot count for the election was:

Elizabeth "Pat" Kennedy 5,157
Jim Nordlund 5,015
Steve Pratt 4,864
Uwe Kalenka 4,784

In other voting, Chugach members passed three bylaw proposals. The first one was a group of housekeeping amendments. A second proposal specified a minimum number of Election Committee members to conform with other annual meeting committees and a third proposal clarified director meeting attendance.

A total of 231 Chugach members registered for the annual meeting, held at the Egan Civic & Convention Center.

Immediately after the annual meeting, the board met to elect new officers to serve for the next year. Rebecca Logan was elected chairman of the board, Jim Nordlund was elected vice-chair, P.J. Hill was elected treasurer and Alex Gimarc was elected secretary.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
