The Chugach Electric Board voted unanimously at its June 20 meeting to appoint five community executives to a Blue Ribbon Panel. The board has tasked the group to review the utility's organization and operation and make recommendations for the future.

Chugach Board Chair Elizabeth Vazquez and Mayor Mark Begich signed an agreement June 15 aimed at leading to a decision by this fall on whether it makes legal and financial sense for the two utilities to merge or somehow combine operations.

The board of directors of Chugach Electric Association approved a 4-year labor contract with one of its bargaining groups for employees that work at power plants and in certain other jobs. The board took the action at a meeting April 25.

Chugach Electric is renaming its new South Anchorage Substation after Robert W. Retherford at a ceremony at 10 a.m., Friday, March 16. Retherford was the first chief engineer for Chugach, working at the utility from 1950 to 1954.

Chugach Electric recorded an all-time system peak load of 479 megawatts between 6 and 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, when the temperature at Chugach's International Station was minus 6 degrees. A peak is the total demand put on the electric system by customers.
